Tulum Ruins and Sea Turtle Tour in Mexico

Tulum is a real dream destination in Mexico, see condos for sale in Tulum. This hip seaside resort has paradisiacal beaes with snow-white sand. Robbin and Boukje go out for us with Ocean Tours and report on a day full of highlights in Tulum.

Early in the morning we are picked up with a collectivo (shared minivan) to visit the first highlight of the day: the ruins of Tulum. Along the way we pick up some other travelers who also join the tour. During the ride, our guide exains how the day is spent and tells about the history of the Mayas. Our guide from Ocean Tours,Joaquin, is half Dut and half Mexican. Nice to talk Dut with him here in the middle of Mexico once in a while. He guides us enthusiastically throughout the day.

Tulum Mayan Ruins

Tulum is not only known as a bea paradise in the Riviera Maya, but also for its impressive Mayan ruins. The special thing is that the Mayas built this ancient city on top of a cliff, so that you have an amazing view of the rocky coast from the ancient ruins. The ruins of Tulum are surrounded by greenery and palm trees. This is not the largest, but one of the most famous Mayan ruins. This is mainly due to its location; at an ideal distance from holiday paradises Playa del Carmen and Cancun (whi does cause crowds).

A guide from the Tulum ruins shows us around and tells us about the construction, history and Mayan culture. Photos will also be taken on this day by a photographer who is also working at Ocean Tours.

Snorkel with sea turtles at Akumal Bea

The next location on the program is Akumal Bea where we will snorkel 'with' sea turtles (at an appropriate distance) in Turtle Bay. Snorkels, flippers and life jackets are handed out and then we walk to the beautiful bea in five minutes. Fortunately there is no seaweed problem here like in Playa del Carmen. With a boat we sail a bit into the Caribbean Sea and there we unge into the water. It is the intention that we stay together in the water with the group and follow the guide. We can snorkel for about 45 minutes and spot 4 turtles, a barracuda and a stingray in that time! Unfortunately there is not a lot of beautiful coral, but it is very cool to see these animals in real life.

Our experiences on this Tulum ruins and sea turtle tour

It's time to go home and we're asked to fill out another evaluation form. The only feedback we have is that the exanation about the snorkeling spot could have been a bit clearer. We kept floating in one ace, later it turned out that this was the entrance to the reef and we could spot the animals that would swim in and out.
